VISALIA, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Mike Boudreaux, the sheriff of Tulare County and candidate for California’s 20th congressional district, has quit the race to represent the area on Capitol Hill.

In a video posted to social media , Boudreaux announced that he is suspending his campaign for Congress and endorsing former competitor Vince Fong. Boudreaux expressed thanks to every volunteer, donor, and endorser who joined the campaign.

Boudreaux versus Fong: Comparing their positions ahead of special election for 20th Congressional District

Boudreaux faced competitor Vince Fong in three elections earlier this year to represent California’s 20th Congression a l District , one on March 5, another on March 19, and a third on May 21. Fong won the highest number of votes in all three elections. The three elections were to both find a candidate to fill the term following the resignation of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy and find a candidate to fill the full term for the following term in Congress.

“While we were on opposite sides of this campaign, at the end of the day we’re Republicans: we’re family men and fighters who are committed to protecting individual liberty, reducing the cost of living, and maintaining safe communities for our neighbors,” said Boudreaux. “That’s why I am suspending my campaign for the 20th Congressional District and endorsing Congressman Vince Fong in the November 5th election.”

Vince Fong is currently serving the remainder of Kevin McCarthy’s term on Capitol Hill.
