NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Private property owners in New Mexico can have debris removed for free. The service is state-funded, the state’s Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM) Office said.

Residents impacted by the South Fork Fire, Salt Fire, or flooding in Lincoln County are allowed to request the debris-clearing service. However, if insurance companies are funding debris removal, the resident has to report it as a portion of the payment might be paid to the state.

A sign-up is required for the service. Property owners can sign up in person at the Roswell Civic and Convention Center (Roswell), Horton Complex (Ruidoso), or the Mescalero Apache School (Mescalero).

Questions can be directed to a hotline at 1-833-663-4736. More information, and an online application, can be found here.
