The senseis and students of Miyagi-Do karate-chop wood, dodge beer bottles, and compete one-on-one to prepare for the karate world championship in a new trailer for Cobra Kai . And naturally, tensions are running high between longtime rivals Daniel LaRusso ( Ralph Macchio ) and Johnny Lawerence (William Zabka). “The Sekai Taikai Tournament is coming,” Johnny says in the trailer. “Now is not the time to puss out.”

“Our strength is we teach both styles equally. Don’t jeopardize that balance, man,” Daniel reminds his former rival.

“Since when do I run shit by you?” Johnny asks.

The two-minute clip highlights the first part of the sixth and final season of the series, and teases a buried secret (literally) from Mr. Miyagi.

The final season of the Karate Kid spin-off features 15 episodes broken into three parts: Part One premieres July 18, Part Two premieres Nov. 28, and the final part will be released in 2025. The series mixes old characters, including Macchio’s original karate kid Daniel LaRusso and Martin Kove’s John Kreese with a new generation of agile karate students. Part one of the final season follows Cobra Kai’s elimination from the Valley, leaving the group of sensei and students to decide if and how to compete in the Sekai Taikai, or the karate world championships.

The cast also includes Xolo Maridueña, Jacob Bertrand, Mary Mouser, Tanner Buchanan, Peyton List, and others. In a 2020 interview with Rolling Stone, Macchio discussed rewatching the decades-old film The Karate Kid and how he got back into character.

“One of the interesting things with viewing the Karate Kid film is you’re following that kid,” Macchio said. “The camera’s on his shoulder, and you’re living every frame through Danny LaRusso. When I showed the film to my kids, say 15 years ago, all of a sudden I viewed that film from the perspective of Mr. Miyagi because I was looking at this kid that would not listen, and he was less interesting to me than Miyagi was. So I gained a new perspective on the same — and it is something we’re bringing.”
