Women In Rap Stole The Show At The 2024 BET Awards, Including Megan Thee Stallion, GloRilla, Latto And More

One word: women!

Female rappers stole the show at the 2024 BET Awards, with artists like Megan Thee Stallion , GloRilla , Latto , Ice Spice, Doechii, and Sexyy Red proving women’s unique and long-lasting effect on rap.

Megan kicked off the evening with a medley that included some of her recent hits, including rumored diss track “Hiss,” “Boa” and the newly released “Where Them Girls At.” Her epic set saw a continuation of the snake motif evident in Megan , the rapper’s third studio album that dropped on Friday. Later, the 29-year-old joined GloRilla during her onstage moment to perform their hit  “Wanna Be.”

Speaking of GloRilla, she made a memorable entrance by descending onto the stage with a parachute and performing “Yeah Glo,” before transitioning into her latest viral sensation, “TGIF.” It’s been quite the year for the 24-year-old; she’s earned star-studded collaborations, multiple viral hits, a new mixtape, Ehhthang Ehhthang , and can call Rihanna a fan. It doesn’t get hotter than that.

Latto took everyone to church in her performance. She performed singles “Sunday Service” and “Big Mama.” The camera caught her sister, Brooklyn Nikole, cheering her on in the front row.

Ice Spice opted to wow the crowd by showing off her twerking abilities in a gas station set, performing “Think U the S**t (Fart)” and her newest single, “Phat Butt.” She dropped the latter a week before the awards, gearing up for her upcoming debut album, Y2K .

Sexyy Red offered viewers a compelling performance-turned-campaign, twerking to her TikTok hit “Get It Sexyy’ in front of a White House set. Before transitioning to that song, she wore a red gown and was backed by a jazz band and dancers who helped her perform “U My Everything.” The presidential imagery differed from the controversial, red-hat-themed set she used on tour.

Doechii gave fans a performance of her newest song, “Rocket,” in partnership with the BET Awards and Sprite Limelight. The track shows off the 25-year-old’s vocal and rap prowess, and the performance in a makeshift swamp ensured those skills were on full display.
