Black Cat ‘Hacks the System’ and Makes Siri Play His Breakfast Song at 3am

Animals are hungry at all hours. It doesn't matter if it's the dead of night (or if they're dead asleep), if you offer your pet a snack they are going to take it. Honestly, wake up a human with a good enough snack and they'd probably accept it, too!

For one black cat on Saturday, June 29th, he knows when his breakfast alarm goes off. He knows the song. So, when he got hungry for a midnight snack, his mom caught him setting it off just to see if she'd fall for it:

    No buddy the alarm goes off a 5am not whenever you decide at 3:30am 😭😂😳 #cat #catsoftiktok #pets #lmfao #chappelroan

I don't think @nicdonatantonio had any idea that a cat paw could set off a HomePod. She certainly does now!

This cat is apparently used to hearing Chappell Roan's Good Luck Babe! at breakfast every morning. I love that song, but hearing it at 5:30am is just so funny; at 5:30am, I'm lucky to be awake. When the song starts playing, mom has to get up and fix her kitty's breakfast. He recognizes the sound of the song!

So, in an attempt to trick her, he tapped the top of her HomePod. If you tap the top of a HomePod when nothing is playing, it'll play the last song you played on it. Maybe he just got lucky with the song, but his paw tapping the top registers the same as a human finger. Dog paws work, too (yes, I just tried).

Should You Use Sound When Feeding Your Cat?

Pavlov started this, right? Back in the 1890s , Ian Pavlov did an experiment where he presented a group of dogs with the sound of a metronome every time they were about to be fed. When they heard the sound, he found they'd start salivating.

That was a long time ago, but today, a lot of people incorporate music or a specific sound into their pet's feeding routine , whether that's a bell or a song. We assume it makes them a better-trained pet, but whether or not that's actually true isn't what matters to us.

If you want to feed your cat at a specific time every day, playing the same song can help them. They'll definitely know when it's time to eat, and the length of the song may even give them just enough time to do it before it goes off. Playing the same song at every feeding time may even bring them comfort. Anxious cats may appreciate music !

You don't have to use a song, of course. There are any number of things you could use instead to get a cat or even a dog ready for mealtime:

    1. Bells
    2. Whistling
    3. A certain saying (our dogs respond well to "hungry?")

If you use a physical item, don't be surprised when your cat learns how to manipulate it. They're smarter than they seem!
