New York Giants RB projected to be among most productive NFL rookies

As the New York Giants prepare for training camp, the running back depth chart will feature an intriguing rookie.

Tyrone Tracy Jr., the team's fifth-round pick out of Purdue, is seemingly climbing the depth chart quickly going into his first training camp.

While he won't have the starting role to himself — that belongs to Devin Singletary — Tracy could find himself carving out a significant role on third downs.

That, along with his explosiveness and elusiveness as a ball carrier, is why Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports is projecting Tracy to be among the most productive rookie running backs.

"Tracy has the dynamic linear athleticism Singletary does not, as evidenced by his 4.48 speed and 40-inch vertical at the combine in March. In fact, Tracy's dynamic physical talent and Singletary's lateral brilliance will make for a fun running-back tandem in the GMen's backfield *if* the Giants can actually block for their ground game," Trapasso said.

Unless an injury befalls Singletary, the ceiling for Tracy will be capped. However, he still has a path to a strong role during his rookie campaign.

Singletary has never proven he can handle a three-down workload, and the NFL is trending more toward committees anyway.

Tracy is dynamic with the ball in his hands so it should be interesting to see what kind of an impact he can make when the pads come on.
