Allegheny County once again has a place to send kids who are commit violent crimes.

It's been three years since Allegheny County's license to operate Shuman Juvenile Detention Center was taken away by the state.

When the newly renovated facility opens Tuesday morning at 8:30, it will have a new operator, the non-profit agency Adelphoi.

Allegheny County Councilman Sam DeMarco tells Marty Griffin the new center will help make the community a little bit safer.

“It will give law enforcement some place where they can take some of these kids that are picked up that have committed felonies and things of that nature to sort of . . . get them off the streets,” said DeMarco.

The new facility will have 12 beds to start with a price tag of $10 million.
