Lace up your running shoes and join the 3rd Annual 5K Run FAR for Fibroid Event . On Point with Juandolyn Stokes welcomed the Founder, LaToya Dwight who experienced her own journey with uterine fibroids to talk about this event that aims to raise awareness about fibroids and funds for research and support for those affected by this common health condition.

The two discussed the alarming statistics surrounding fibroids, common symptoms, and the misconception that hysterectomy is the only solution.

Fibroids are non-cancerous growths that develop in the uterus and affect millions of women, particularly women of color. According to Dwight, “about 70 percent of women will develop fibroids before age 50, of that demographic 80 percent are black”. These statistics highlight the importance of raising awareness and providing support for those living with fibroids.

One of the key takeaways from the interview was the misconception that hysterectomy is the only solution for treating fibroids. Dwight emphasized that there are alternative treatment options available. It is important for women to explore all their options and consult with healthcare professionals to determine the best course of action for their individual situation.

Overall, the interview shed light on the impact of fibroids on women's health and the need for more education and resources in this area. By sharing her story and organizing the 5K Run FAR to Fibroid event, LaToya Dwight is making a significant difference in the lives of women affected by fibroids as she continues to educate and empower.

Come together to run FAR and raise awareness for fibroids!
