If you live in the United States, I think I can guarantee one thing about your life, even though I know nothing about you: you're overheated. It's hot, it's humid, and it's sweaty, just about everywhere you go. With the East Coast experiencing a mighty heat wave last weekend and the month of July only just getting started, we are mentally preparing ourselves for hotter days to come.

While some people are lucky enough to have AC units or central air that actually works throughout their entire home, some of us are not so privileged. This means we have to get creative with how we keep our homes cool this summer and that means learning stuff on TikTok!

Watch as this mom tries out a viral home hack and it actually works. You might need to give it a go!

When Christina ( @christinakayscheftic on TikTok) usually watches videos of DIY home projects online, she thinks, Oh that's so cute! But she never actually does it. This time however, was totally different.

When Christina saw a video posted by beloved TikTok creator Claire Edwards ( @theclairenecessities ) about keeping her home cool for the summer, she knew she had to try it. So off to Home Depot she went!

Sometimes just having your air conditioning turned on isn't enough to keep you cool. Sometimes the cold air escapes through your windows if you live in an old home and the windows aren't well insulated! Since repairing the windows themselves was simply not an option for Christina, she'd been trying to find an affordable and easy way to keep them sealed off during the summer. And this DIY was the answer to her prayers.

How to Keep Cool Air Inside All Summer

What do you need for a quick and easy way to insulate your windows during the warm months? Grab a few panels of rigid foam board insulation and you'll be good to go. You can find these at any home improvement store like Home Depot or Lowe's and they are super inexpensive. Some Christina managed to get hers for only two cents but typically two panels costs around $20, which is not bad at all.

Simply cut out the board to fit your windows and place them right up against the glass. These boards will insulate the windows, keeping the hot air out and the cold air in. It might not look super aesthetically-pleasing, but it will keep you cool and that's all that matters.

Try insulated curtains, they are worth the investment and you can see out of your windows.
