Monroe County to provide roadside storm debris pickup for its residents

MONROE COUNTY, Ind. — Roadside storm debris removal will be available for Monroe County residents starting next week.

According to a press release, county officials have hired a private contractor to help remove tree debris from the area. Many trees and power lines around Monroe County were downed during a storm on June 25 .

Those who wish to have storm debris removed from their yards should place tree and vegetation waste on their curbsides or along the ends of their property lines to make it easy for the county’s contractor to pick up. The county is also asking residents to refrain from placing any debris in roadways and ditches or on sidewalks.

Below is the debris pickup schedule the county provided via press release:

Perry Township

• Debris to curbside by July 7
• Pickup dates: July 8-12

Van Buren Township

• Debris to curbside by July 14
• Pickup dates: July 15-19

Clear Creek Township

• Debris to curb by July 21
• Pickup dates: July 22-26

Richland Township

• Debris to curb by July 28
• Pickup dates: July 29-August 2

Salt Creek Township

• Debris to curb by August 4
• Pickup dates: August 5-9

Polk Township

• Debris to curb by August 11
• Pickup dates: August 12-16

Monroe County officials issued a Local Disaster Emergency Declaration after the storms rolled through the area last week. During the storms, more than 40,000 people in Bloomington and the surrounding area were without power.
