Angel Reese Makes History After Becoming The First WNBA With 10-Straight Double-Doubles

Angel Reese has achieved another milestone in her WNBA career after her team’s 70-62 loss to the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday. She made history by becoming the first WNBA player to achieve a double-double in 10 consecutive games within a single season.

Securing an impressive 16 rebounds and just two points away from achieving double figures in both categories once more, Reese calmly sank two free throws with 23 seconds remaining in the game to reach this significant milestone.

Surpassing the previous record of nine consecutive games, which was held by two-time WNBA MVP and former Chicago Sky player Candace Parker, Reese has made her mark in the league. Notably, Reese also became the first rookie to achieve a double-double in seven consecutive games during Chicago’s victory against the Dallas Wings on June 20.

The day proved to be a memorable one for the 22-year-old, as she was honored with the title of BET’s Sportswoman of the Year. Despite Reese’s remarkable performance on the boards, the Chicago Sky suffered a disappointing defeat against the Lynx, bringing the team’s record to 6-11 for the season. Reese faced challenges in her shooting accuracy, converting only four of her 16 field goal attempts during the game.

Following the game, Chicago head coach Teresa Weatherspoon emphasized the positives and commended Reese for her resilience.

“Just proud of her, proud of what she does,” she told reporters. “I’m sure she’ll say ‘the win was more important.’ She’s gonna continue to do what she does, it’s who she is, she’s always gonna come out and play hard and confident and give you everything that she has.

“She’s the hardest person on herself, so proud of what she’s doing and what she’ll continue to do.”
