Cedar Fair officially merges with Six Flags

SANDUSKY, Ohio (WJW) — Cedar Fair, the parent company of Cedar Point , officially merged with Six Flags Monday.

The combined company, operating under the name Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, now owns 27 amusement parks, 15 water parks and nine resorts spanning 17 states, as well as Canada and Mexico.

Company officials announced in a press release that Six Flags Entertainment Corporation’s common stock shares will start trading on the New York Stock Exchange Tuesday.

Last year , the companies announced they reached a $2 billion deal.

Through the merger, Cedar Fair’s Richard Zimmerman becomes CEO and Six Flags CEO Selim Bassoul is the company’s executive chairman.

The company will be headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina.

According to company officials, all theme parks will keep their legacy branding. There are no plans to change park names at this time.
