OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEHT) — In Daviess County, just under $4 million will be used to introduce a new air conditioning system to the entire courthouse. They’ll also reconfigure some of the office layouts on the second floor.

“It encompasses all of what we call the Fiscal court area, and also the County Attorney’s offices. After that piece is done… after election day, they’ll come down on the first floor and do the Clerk’s office,” says Daviess County Judge-Executive Charlie Castlen.

Officials say three offices will be added for future hires.

The building currently uses a boiler system; The same one put in place when the courthouse first sprung up on Saint Ann Street.

“You can’t switch our system back and forth repeatedly. It’s very, very hard on the system to do that. People can have some days that are really uncomfortable in there,” says Castlen.

Staff dedicated around a week to clearing out the space.

While changes are being made, the Daviess County Fiscal Court will spend around four months located at the corner of 3rd Street and Allen Street. The new location usually serves as the county emergency management building.

“Our computers in this building need to be able to communicate with wherever we were relocating to. We needed to be pretty close by,” says Castlen.

The Daviess County EMA has temporarily moved to New Hartford Road at the L. Reid Haire Administration Building.
