Just in time for the Fourth of July holiday, temperatures will soar across Southern California this week and bring “dangerously” hot temperatures reaching into the triple digits in some areas.

An excessive heat warning will be in effect through 11 p.m. Monday, with dangerously hot conditions and near record-breaking temperatures in the deserts by Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

An excessive heat warning will also be in effect in the mountains on Friday and Saturday, while an excessive heat advisory will blanket the valleys and inland areas during the same period.

The high temperatures and low humidity will also create an extended period of elevated to critical fire danger in areas away from the coast, forecasters said.

Night and morning coastal low clouds will spread into portions of the western valleys late each night with the marine layer moderating heat near the coast.

Highs on Tuesday will be 73 to 78 near the coast, 79 to 82 inland, 82 to 86 in the western valleys, 92 to 97 near the foothills, 91 to 100 in the mountains and 111 to 114 in the deserts, according to meteorologists.

Authorities reminded the public to never leave pets or children inside vehicles on days that are even a little warmer than normal, as locked cars can turn into death traps in mere minutes.

San Diego County operates Cool Zones for people who need a place to escape the heat. To find a location, refer to this map or call 211.
