    Tornado officially hit Huron County Saturday breaking state record, NWS says

    HURON COUNTY, Ohio (WJW) — With storms hitting much of Northeast Ohio Saturday —knocking out thousands of residents’ power — the National Weather Service has now announced a tornado did touch down briefly in Huron County .

    Categorized as an EF-0, the lowest in the tornado ratings , the touchdown reportedly took place in a corn field not far from the area of Lisa Lane and Egypt Road in Willard.

    “Several tree limbs were twisted off and one limb impaled the ground,” NWS said in a report.

    The tornado touched down at 11:02 a.m. and no one was reported injured. However, the tornado did help break an Ohio record.

    “Willard Tornado broke the record with the 63rd tornado touching down in Ohio, surpassing the previous high of 62 set back in 1992,” NWS Cleveland said on social media , and it’s only July.
