The story of the Pimm’s Cup at Napoleon House in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO ) — Napoleon House in the French Quarter is officially launching “National Pimm’s Cup Day” in honor of the summer cocktail.

July 1 is now officially the first ever “National Pimm’s Cup Day.”

“The Pimm’s Cup history begins here at Napoleon House,” said Executive Chef and General Manager at Napoleon House Chris Montero.

Montero said, “Somewhere between 1915 and the 1930s, the Pimm’s was introduced by the Impastato family, the original owner of Napoleon House.” One hundred years earlier, in the 1840s, James Pimm invented the drink at a London bar, but it hadn’t been served in the States yet.

“It should be celebrated because this is the home of Pimm’s in America, and we like to taut that. Pimm’s Cup is a low alcohol cocktail beverage, derivative of gin with herbaceous botanicals, served with lemonade or lemon juice or ginger beer or lemon lime soda in America,” he said.

“It is the most refreshing drink you could ever taste, and one is never enough. They’re delicious,” said Susan Stevens, a visitor from Mississippi.

Visitors like Stevens agree they’ll make a pit stop for Pimm’s.

“Whenever I come to New Orleans, this is the first place I stop,” she said.

While the Pimm’s Cup has a lot of history at Napoleon House, it is making new history with its brand-new frozen Pimm’s Cup, which is sure to be a hit in the hot summer months here in New Orleans.

“We sell more Pimm’s than anywhere else in the world, any other bar or restaurant. Now, we are very excited to have a National Pimm’s Cup Day,” said Montero.

Napoleon House is a national historic landmark. The building has been around since 1797.
