WARRINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA—A local water authority is claiming success in eliminating harmful chemicals from the public water supply using new technology.

The Bucks County Sewer and Water Authority said that it had worked with a contractor to remove PFAS, which are commonly known as “forever chemicals,” from the water at  two of its locations. The water in those locations had levels of PFAS that were “slightly” higher than levels recommended by state regulators.

The authority said that by working with a third-party contractor, TruClear Water Solutions, it had been able to remove 90% of PFAS in the water supply. In some cases, a press release said, the technology was able to remove 100% of PFAS. The authority said those results were backed up by an analysis conducted by an independent lab.

TruClear says it uses electricity to create chemical reactions to eliminate PFAS without generating any contaminants that need to be removed. The work was part of a pilot-test of the technology conducted at the water authority’s locations in Solebury and New Hope locations.

TruClear is seeking approval from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to use the technology throughout the state. The company hasn’t used its technology with any other water utility.
