VERMILLION COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Officials say a new partnership in the Wabash Valley will provide faster emergency medical services in local communities.

Parke County EMS has officially assumed the contract for providing EMS to Vermillion County.

Director of Ambulance Service Julie Lanzone said there will be ambulances at areas along major highways, allowing easy access into both Parke and Vermillion Counties.

The main thing she wants people to know is that coverage will remain the same.

“Coverage is not going to change. We’re going to cover the same area, but now potentially because we can kind of blur the county lines for emergencies, our response time is going to be much faster,” Lanzone said.

“These are the kinds of opportunities that counties should take advantage of and work together. We don’t all have to reinvent the wheel every time. There are good things that can be done by finding some common ground and going toward things together,” said Jim Meece, President of the Parke County Board of Commissioners.

Parke County EMS took its first Vermillion County call at 8 p.m. Sunday night.
