    Surry Student-Athletes Earn Region 10 Academic Honors

    KINSTON — Surry Community College recently had 28 student-athletes receive spring All-Region honors for their academic performance. All-Academic honors are presented to Region 10 student-athletes who achieved at least a 3.0 grade point average while earning a minimum of twelve credit hours and participating in a spring semester sport.

    “We are excited to have our student-athletes honored by Region 10 for their academic performance,” said Surry Athletic Director Mark Tucker. “Our student-athletes have had a very successful academic year in the classroom. Our coaches are outstanding with emphasizing the importance of academics on a daily basis and we are very fortunate to have the support from our administration, faculty, and staff. Our student-athletes attended approximately 2,000 hours of study hall and tutoring in our Academic Support Center during this past academic year. We are extremely proud of our student-athletes for their commitment and perseverance."Surry baseball had 21 recipients including Anthony Ayers (East Surry), Luke Bowman (East Surry), Matthew Connolly (West Rowan), Konor Davis (Alexander Central), Brennan Fleming (Eastern Guilford), Jacob Fraas (Glenn), Lucas Graham (West Rowan), Jackson Greene (Hough), Nathan Greene (West Rowan), Ashton Gwyn (Mount Airy), Brady Halstead (Metrolina), Hunter Koontz (Central Davidson), Austin Lapham (Alexander Central), Ian McHugh (Pocono Mtn. West), Zach McNeely (West Rowan), Elijah Palmer (West Rowan), Caden Poole (Central Davidson), Sylas Sechrist (Carroll County), Aiden Shropshire (Surry Central), Clay Whitaker (Surry Central) and Gavin Williams (Lincoln Charter).

    Seven members of the Surry softball team were recognized including Carlee Jones (Surry Central), Carley Joyner (Forbush), Layken Mathis (Starmount), Emily Mitchell (South Stokes), McKenzie Mixon (Davie County), Sydney Seagraves (Mount Airy), and Emma Sorrell (Forbush).

    Region 10 recognized 965 student-athletes from 31 member colleges.
