BARBER COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) — An oil well blowout in Barber County caused travel problems and power outages around Kiowa and Hardtner on Monday.

The Barber County Sheriff’s Office says that Kansas Highway 2 west of Kiowa from Northstar Road to Highway 281 is shut down as a result.

According to Southern Pioneer Electric, the oil coated the lines, causing them to trip. On Tuesday morning, the company said power had been restored, and a temporary bypass line was constructed until permanent repairs can be made.
