The United States men's national soccer team suffered a stunning 0-1 defeat to Uruguay in the Copa America on Monday night.

While it was surely not a good showing for Team USA, the game's head referee Kevin Ortega displayed a series of mistakes that proved to be disastrous.

One example of this was when Ortega decided to call a yellow card for a foul on the American side — while also letting play continue.

A viral post of Ortega's ghastly officiating has fans wondering whether the referee needs to be investigated.

"Never seen this before… The ref pulls out a yellow card and then tells Uruguay to play on?? What the actual fk? Horrible officiating," one X user wrote in a post that has over 600,000 views in over 2 hours.

"We’re watching robbery happen in real time," another X user responded.

Another fan claimed corruption by writing, "its called conmebol corrupcion you cannot trust south america when it comes to soccer they are corrupt and evil".

"Welcome to CONMEBOL. Worst officiating in the world," added another.

This terrible refereeing display adds insult to injury for a brutal night for US soccer.
