For the first time the Daily Telegram is pitting 10 of the top teams in Lenawee County against each other in a poll to deem who the readers believe is the top team in Lenawee.

For some time now, the Maples have dominated the boys side of cross country in Lenawee County.

This season was a continuation of the success as Adrian rolled to winning the county preview and championships while also collecting the Division 2 regional title and taking seventh in the state.

Leading the way were seniors, Lenawee County Cross Country Runner of the Year, Braylon Petty, and Lenawee County Track Athlete of the Year, Matthew Canales. Sophomore Moises Salazar will be back to help keep Adrian on top this fall.

In the pools, the Maples have been building into a state competitor and for the second-straight season, they took fourth in the state.

Leading the way for this rise has been senior Hadyn Gould, who took second in the 200 IM and was part of the second place 200 medley relay team and third in the 200 freestyle relay.

Sophomore London Rising will look to keep the Maples rising after taking second in the 200 freestyle and third in the 100 butterfly. Junior Brayden Kilpatrick and sophomore Kade Opsal will also be back after joining the duo in the relays.

After taking second in the county preview, the Redwolves improved throughout the rest of the season claimed the county championship, the LCAA championship and a Division 3 regional title before placing 12th overall.

Clinton was led by a group of strong seniors including Cylee Elkins, Allison Bowles and Samantha Coots.

The Redwolves narrowly edged out Tecumseh in the county championships, then beat Blissfield by 11 in the LCAA championships and then Monroe SMCC by 13 in the regional.

The Tigers continued their incredible run on the cheer mats, claiming a fifth-straight Division 4 state championship, the first program in Division 4 to accomplish such a feat.

The Cougars have become a powerhouse since joining the 8-man division, winning three titles in the four seasons since making the move.

While LCS moved down to Division 2 after being Division 1 for the first three seasons, it could be argued it was a tougher field than the higher division.

Led by Associated Press and Lenawee County 8-Man Player of the Year, senior quarterback and cornerback Sam Lutz, the Cougars had an unbeaten season and claimed a third championship against Marion, 36-18.

The Cougars volleyball team had a great season, becoming the first squad since Madison in 2016 to make it all the way to Battle Creek.

LCS won the county title, TCC title and also district and regional titles before falling in five sets in the semifinals.

The Cougars were a senior heavy team led by Hannah Baker, Gabby Bryja, Sophia Samonek, Selah Clymer, Ally Day and Whitney Lilly. LCS will still be returning some solid pieces, including Callie Anderson who stepped up when Clymer went down with an injury during the season.

    Tecumseh Girls Basketball

Tecumseh girls basketball has been on the rise for a few years now, perhaps toward this coming season, but what a year the 2023-24 season was for Tecumseh.

Tecumseh won the SEC White, a district title and regional title and played in a quarterfinal thriller, but ultimately fell to Ann Arbor Father Gabriel Richard.

The entire team will return for this coming season, including the school's all-time leading scorer and Lenawee County Player of the Year, Alli Zajac, for her senior season.

The final team is really a 2-for-1 special as both the Tecumseh boys and girls bowling teams had equally great seasons.

Both won the SEC White, both won a Division 2 regional and both made it to the Division 2 semifinals.

Senior Owen Williams and junior Palmer Ziemer made bracket play in the individual state tournament for the boys while the girls were led at states by seniors Wendy Ketola and Brooke Kosco.
