The New York Giants were an injury-riddled disaster in 2023, an issue only further compounded by infighting and an offseason coaching exodus.

Entering the 2024 season, expectations are understandably low, which is undeniably warranted given the franchise’s futility over the past decade-plus.

But there is a glimmer of hope, says Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer . He believes the Giants have enough talent to be considered a potential dark horse candidate for a Super Bowl run.

In the NFC, I think I’d give you the New York Giants, if you want a true dark horse. They need development from 2022 first-rounder Kayvon Thibodeaux. They need to figure it out at quarterback, whether it’s Daniel Jones or, if things break wrong for him, Drew Lock. But their rookie class looked dynamite in the spring, I think Brian Burns might be the best acquisition of the offseason, and they were really good two years ago.

Despite pegging the Giants as a dark horse candidate, Breer makes it very clear that they aren’t his Super Bowl pick.

Still, this must be music to the ears of any Giants fan looking to cling onto something — anything — positive. It’s been a very rough ride for the organization since Super Bowl XLVI except for a one-off postseason appearance in 2016 and an unexpected climb in 2022 that was followed by a fall off a steep cliff.

Not many believe the Giants will amount to anything in 2024 but Breer maintains the potential is there. We’ll all find out soon enough.
