Olean Oilers Drop Nailbiter to Hornell Steamers

OLEAN, NY — In a 6-5 loss to the Hornell Steamers, the Oilers left two runners stranded on the bases in the bottom of the ninth. The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Oilers.

Twice during the game, the Oilers responded within the same inning the Steamers took the lead.

The Steamers held their first lead of the game when they managed one run in the top of the second inning. The Oilers quickly responded by scoring two runs in the bottom of the second.

The Steamers took the lead again in the top of the eighth, scoring two runs for a 5-3 lead. The Oilers responded again by scoring two in the bottom half of the inning, tying the game at 5.

The Steamers scored one more run in the top of the ninth inning. That time, the Oilers were unable to respond.

Relief pitcher Nathan Beimel was tagged with his first loss of the season after pitching one and a third innings and allowing the last three runs of the game.

Steamers relief pitcher Alex Dupuy got the win for pitching one and third shutout innings. Dupuy spent the first seven and two-third innings playing third base.

Oilers center fielder JP Pennella stole his 13th base of the season.

The Oilers look to get back into the win column Tuesday at home against the Dansville Gliders. The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
