Russia’s UN Ambassador claims Trump couldn’t end Ukraine war in ‘one day’

Former President Donald Trump has repeatedly declared he could end the war between Russia and Ukraine in one day. He has made this claim on the campaign trail, at his political rallies, and again last week in the debate against President Joe Biden. However, Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations disputed Trump’s statement, saying the former president wouldn’t be able to end the war in a day.

"I will have that war settled between Putin and (Ukrainian President Volodymyr) Zelenskiy as president-elect before I take office on January 20th. I'll have that war settled," Trump said last week during the debate . "I'll get it settled fast, before I take office."

During a press conference at the United Nations on Monday, where the Russian Federation assumed the United Nations Security Council presidency, Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia was asked about Trump’s assertion on ending the war. He rejected the idea.

“We heard it before,” Nebenzia quipped.”

He then elaborated on the potential for ending the war and why it would be impossible to do so in one day.

“The Ukrainian crisis cannot be solved in one day,” Nebenzia said. “That’s subjective. President Putin recently said where we are in the Ukrainian crisis of today. It could have been solved, as you are well aware, in April 2022 in Istanbul, where we were very close to an agreement.”

He then blamed the West, particularly former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson, for the peace negotiations' failure.

“But then Western sponsors of Ukraine interfered, in particular Boris Johnson, who told Ukrainians, who told the Kyiv regime to continue fighting Russia. There was the Bucha provocation that was formerly the reason for them to exit the negotiations and the agreement that was 95% ready.”

“Now Zelensky and the regime are running around with his so-called peace plan, which is, of course, not a peace plan, but a joke,” Nebenzia said.

Trump or his campaign has not commented in response to Nebenzia’s comment about the former president being unable to end the war in a day.
