Netflix UK Picks Up Idris Elba Doc About Gold

Netflix has picked up UK rights to Idris Elba’s doc feature about gold. Gold: A Journey with Idris Elba sees the Luther star embark on an adventure that explores the precious metal’s meaning, how it has shaped cultures, religions, and entire economies around the world. It will drop on the streamer on July 24 and follows Human Playground, another Elba-Netflix series that saw the actor explore the origins and evolution of play across the globe. The series was produced by Pioneer Productions. It was conceived and shaped by the World Gold Council with the support of their members. EP is Peter Collins and director is Paul Bradshaw, with Colin Byne, Lucy Joyner and Helen Shearer as producers. Nick Tanner, Passion Distribution’s Director of Sales and Co-Productions, brokered the deal.

Channel 4 Makes Katie Jackson Permanent Marketing Boss

Channel 4 has made Katie Jackson permanent Chief Marketing Officer and said she will “play a key role” in the network’s “ambitious Fast Forward strategy.” Jackson, who used to run the Bake Off network’s in-house agency, had been filling in temporarily following the exit of Zaid Al-Qassab, which preceded the layoffs of around 250 staff. Along with the redundancies, the Fast Forward strategy includes the closure of Channel 4’s London premises and plans around digital growth and diversification. “Katie is an outstanding and passionate creative leader who has already made an indelible mark at Channel 4,” said CEO Alex Mahon. “I am excited about the impact she will have across our business, our leadership and with our audiences to elevate the Channel 4 brand.”
