Florida Is Getting A New Publix With Luxury Condos And A Food Hall

    2024-07-02

Publix fans in Miami's North Bay Village Florida on Biscayne Bay are about to get a very unique version of the retailer - a Publix with a food hall and condos.

That concept might seem strange to some Floridians because, if you are a Floridian of a certain age, you might remember when shopping at Publix meant that you merely had access to traditional groceries plus a meat, deli, bakery, and seafood department in a free-standing store.

Things have changed. I've written about how some Publix stores have eliminated a designated meat counter with a butcher and how some new stores have added additional amenities like burrito bars and popcorn makers.

And now Floridians are being introduced to a different type of Publix - one that will be inside luxury apartments with many different culinary options.

The Shoma Bay Condos and Publix Combination: In May of 2023, it was announced that new construction was planned on what would be Shoma Bay at North Bay Village, a condo community with 333 living units and a 35,037 square foot Publix with a Shoma Bazaar food hall.

According to the website for Shoma Bay, the North Bay Village 24-story community is on Biscayne Bay, offering residents a coastal, laid-back lifestyle.

The builder broke ground on the project in late June of 2024. Prices for some of the condos initially started in the $400,000s, But, with 40% of inventory pre-sold, the remaining unsold condos are priced at around $750,000.

At that price, residents can enjoy amenities such as a rooftop pool, a zen garden, a golf simulator, a cigar room, a wine club, a fitness center, and a spa.

The project is expected to be completed in 2026.
