Jennifer Lopez and Sean “P. Diddy” Combs had a whirlwind romance in the early 2000s. They met on the set of Lopez’s 1999 music video for “If You Had My Love” and started dating shortly after. Combs had broken up with his long-term girlfriend Kim Porter during this time, though after his relationship with Lopez ended, Combs and Porter got back together.
According to a compilation of clips posted to YouTube , Lopez discussed the relationship while speaking to Regis Philbin on Live With Regis . She explained that Combs threw her a surprise birthday party that she never expected.
Lopez said that Combs suggested that the two of them go out to dinner for a low-key night out. Combs said he wanted a “quiet” night with Lopez because of the publicity they received. “So, we go out to dinner, and after that, he’s like, ‘Oh, there’s this girl’s birthday who’s also today!'” Lopez explained. “He’s like, ‘Maybe we should just stop by, have a drink, something.'” Lopez seemed unenthused, but she went along with the plan.
“We drive up, and there’s all these balloons outside,” Lopez continued. “And I think to myself, ‘Wow, this girl’s having a really big party.’ And I walk in, and everybody yells, ‘Surprise!’ and I’m like, I’m not this girl. These dumbies, what are they doing right now? And then I see my father and my friends, and I just start crying. I’ve never been surprised in my whole life.”

But I could never go forward and finish the relationship with Jennifer because I was still in love with Kim. She still had my heart.”
Combs said that Porter knew he’d return once his romance with Lopez ended. “During the whole Jennifer Lopez thing, she was like, ‘You’ll be back. Go do your thing, silly boy,'” he said. “I’m quite sure that was a tough time for her, but she was cool as ice. That’s sexy!”
