Starting off as a traditional high school comedy-drama, 1988's Heathers takes a decidedly dark turn that instantly elevates it to cult classic. When group leader Heather Chandler (Kim Walker) is accidentally poisoned, Veronica ( Winona Ryder ) quickly comes to realize that her new boyfriend, J.D. ( Christian Slater ), is systematically murdering people he doesn't like, and he seems to have set his sites on Chandler replacement, Heather Duke ( Shannen Doherty ), who, it should be noted, Veronica doesn't have much use for either.
