    Municipal filing begins Friday

    Filing for municipal offices opens at noon Friday and runs through noon July 19 at the Stanly County Board of Elections.
    Seats up for election, and the current occupant, are:
    Albemarle: Ronnie Michael, mayor; Dexter Townsend, Council District 1; William Sherrill Aldridge, Council District 3; Benton Dry, Council At-Large; Martha Sue Hall, Council At-Large.
    Badin: W. Demar Huntley, Council At-Large; Gary Lowder, Council At-Large.
    Locust: Steve Huber, Mayor; Larry Baucom, Council At-Large; Michael Haigler, Council At-Large; Harry Fletcher, Council At-Large; Rusty Efird, Council At-Large.
    Misenheimer: Ellen Jamieson Hammil (appointed June 12, 2023), Council At-Large; Jeffrey G. Watson, Council At-Large.
    New London: Richard Kimmer, Commissioner At-Large; Johnny W. Chestnut, Jr., Commissioner At-Large; Bill Peak, Commissioner At-Large.
    Norwood: Linda Campbell, Mayor; Robbie Cohen, Council At-Large; James Lilly, Council At-Large.
    Oakboro: Chris N. Huneycutt, Mayor; Joey Carpenter, Commissioner At-Large; Lanny Hathcock, Commissioner At-Large.
    Red Cross: Kelly Brattain, Mayor; Melvin Poole, Council At-Large; Trina Plowman, Council At-Large.
