When is Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2024? Fold 6 and Flip 6 foldables and Galaxy smart ring due this summer

Samsung is preparing to unveil its most expensive phones at a gala event next week in Paris.

Almost a year has passed since the company released its last foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 , so they’re primed for an upgrade. The pricey duo are expected to headline the Galaxy Unpacked event but may play second fiddle to a more unassuming trinket.

In a first for the Korean firm, Samsung is set to release a smart ring . The dinky wearable should be able to track your health and sleep patterns discreetly around the clock.

One thing’s for sure, Apple and Google don’t yet offer rings, meaning Samsung will be the only household name in the fledgling category.

Here’s what we know about Galaxy Unpacked, including its date and rumoured devices.

    When is Samsung Galaxy Unpacked?

After hosting the first Unpacked in its native Korea in January, where it unveiled the AI -powered Galaxy S24 , Samsung is bringing its flagship event to Paris on July 10.

It is expected to begin at 2pm UK time.

The latest Unpacked will take place just weeks before the Olympics in the French capital, which Samsung is also sponsoring.

    What to expect

Samsung may launch several new devices at Unpacked including two luxury foldables: a smart ring and a smartwatch.

    Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6

What is it? Samsung’s original foldable is also its most expensive phone.

The sizeable inner screen is still the Fold’s best feature: a rumoured 7.6 inches when opened like a notebook in tablet mode (unchanged from the Fold 5).

The camera is supposedly unchanged, with three lenses on the back (50MP main, 12MP ultrawide, 10MP telephoto), a selfie camera beneath the display, and plenty of AI gloss slathered on top.

The latest Snapdragon Gen 3 chip, also found in traditional phones like the Samsung Galaxy S24, will probably be inside. Productivity hounds and multi-taskers will also welcome a rumoured bump to battery power.

Then again, if it still costs £1,749, the price could be the dealbreaker for most people.

Overall, the Fold 6 should be great for avid readers, note-takers, scribblers, and sketchers with money to spare — but, do you need it if you already own an iPad ?

    Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6

What is it? It’s a bendy take on the classic flip phone.

The Flip is Samsung’s version of the classic Motorola Razr, with a tinchy outside screen for glancing at notifications. That extra display could be half an inch bigger this time, allowing you to see more of your texts and emails, while the foldable inner screen will probably remain unchanged at 6.7 inches.

However, the biggest upgrades should be the jump to a Snapdragon Gen 3 processor (the same as on the Fold 6) and a 50-megapixel main camera, significantly better than the 12-megapixel sensor in the Flip 5.

    Galaxy AI

What is it? Generative AI software for Samsung phones

Before Apple Intelligence , there was Galaxy AI. Samsung’s artificial intelligence is already whipping up emojis from photos, translating conversations, and scrubbing objects from images on the S23, S24, Fold 5, and Flip 5. Next, it could be coming to the firm’s latest foldables and more.

The official Unpacked event invitation states: "Prepare to discover the power of Galaxy AI, now infused into the latest Galaxy Z series and the entire Galaxy ecosystem.”

Most Galaxy AI features are free, although Samsung has indicated some may require payment in the future (potentially after 2026).

    Samsung Galaxy Ring

What is it? A finger-worn health tracker for people who don’t want another screen to stare at.

Samsung made the Galaxy Ring official with a brief teaser at its last Unpacked. The concave wearable, equipped with sensors on the inside rim, gives readings on heart rate, breathing rate, sleep movement, time to fall asleep, and monthly cycle tracking.

Samsung has shown off some prototypes in three colours (gold, silver, and ceramic black) and nine traditional ring sizes, with weights ranging from 2.3 grams to 2.9g. Even the largest of these is lighter than the Oura Ring , which is still lightweight at 4-6g. The bad news for Apple fans is the Galaxy Ring won’t play nice with the iPhone.

    Samsung Galaxy Watch 7

What is it? A sleep and fitness tracker.

The Galaxy Watch 7 could become significantly faster and more efficient through a new Samsung Exynos processor. This could lead to smoother operation and longer battery life (rumours suggest up to two full days on a single charge). Faster wireless charging is also on the cards.

Fitness fanatics might be particularly excited about new health tracking features including sleep apnea detection, and its ability to work with the Galaxy Ring to provide deeper health insights. The classic design (with its rotating bezel) might stick around, but there are rumours of a square-faced option too.

    * Samsung Galaxy Unpacked will be live-streamed on Samsung.com , Samsung Newsroom , and its YouTube channel .
