    If you need to access your bank this week, you should do it before the Fourth of July approaches .

    This Thursday is Independence Day , meaning banks will not be open. Fourth of July is a federal holiday across the US and banks will be closed on the day.

    Origins of the Fourth of July

    The Fourth of July goes all the way back to when people in Philidelphia marked the first anniversary of American Independence with a “spontaneous celebration,” as detailed in a letter by John Adams to his daughter Abigail, according to the Library of Congress.

    The yearly recognition of the holiday started becoming a part of Americans ' lives after the War of 1812. Independence Day became a federal holiday on June 28, 1870.

    Will banks be open on the Fourth of July?

    Branches of Capital One, Bank of America, PNC, Truist, CitiBank and JPMorgan Chase will be closed on the Fourth of July . Capital One Cafes will stay open.

    Will FedEx and UPS be open on the Fourth of July?

    All post offices will be closed for retail transactions. There will not be any regular residential or business mail deliveries on July 4.
