Anfield has officially bid farewell to ten players whose contracts have expired, as the Arne Slot era dawns with Thiago being one of the notable departures.

Liverpool had already announced that a group of players, all out of contract by the end of June, would be leaving the club. Slot, taking over the reins from Jurgen Klopp , is now assessing the squad he has inherited.

Thiago, who joined from Bayern Munich in 2020, has been let go following an Anfield stint marred by injuries. Despite showing flashes of his talent, the Spanish midfielder failed to consistently deliver on the high expectations set for him.

Joel Matip is another significant player departing. A key figure in Liverpool's 2019 Champions League triumph, Matip has frequently been sidelined due to injuries, much like Thiago.

Jurgen Klopp had expressed hope that Matip would be offered a new contract in recognition of his service. "I'm pretty sure the club will show their class, just as they should," he said.

"I'm pretty sure they have told Joel already whatever happens, as long as he's injured everything's fine, and now we have to make a decision with Joel how it looks after that.

"That's a normal thing to do but he deserves all the support from us, and he will get it. I would say so [that he deserves a new deal], but it's not my decision. I cannot sign the papers."

Meanwhile, young prospects Adam Lewis, Melkamu Frauendorf and Mateusz Musialowski have all seen their time at Anfield come to an end. All three have plied their trade in the first-team, with Lewis most notably making his debut in a FA Cup replay versus Shrewsbury Town back in February 2020.

The likes of Nathan Giblin, Francis Gyimah, Luke Hewitson, Niall Osborne and Cody Pennington are additional academy talents bidding goodbye to Liverpool.

In Slot's inaugural summer, big decisions remain pending. Both Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez's futures are up for discussion. Salah remains a high-value asset, drawing interest from Saudi Arabian clubs, whereas Nunez hasn't been able to justify his hefty transfer fee with consistent goal-scoring.

Full list of departures : Thiago Alcantara, Joel Matip, Adam Lewis, Melkamu Frauendorf, Mateusz Musialowski, Nathan Giblin, Francis Gyimah, Luke Hewitson, Niall Osborne, Cody Pennington.
