The Wake County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to offering competitive compensation packages to attract and retain quality law enforcement officers, detention officers, and administrative staff to serve and protect the people and businesses of Wake County, the sheriff’s office said in a statement released last week.

In recognition of Sheriff Willie Rowe’s latest recruitment initiative, the starting salary for a detention officer cadet and a deputy sheriff cadet will increase from $50,540 to $54,000, effective August 1, according to WCSO. This represents a 6.85% salary increase for all cadets. Once certified, the base salaries for deputies and detention officers will increase to $56,700.

“We believe this increase will enable WCSO to recruit and retain the best and brightest law enforcement and detention officers in the country,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release. “Our agency’s compensation goal for the upcoming fiscal year is to review the salary structure and market ranges for our administrative positions.”

Sheriff Willie Rowe thanjed the county commissioners for supporting the sheriff’s office.

“My primary focus is to provide each employee with the necessary skills, tools, and support to succeed in their roles,” Rowe said. “Additionally, I want to extend my gratitude to our county commissioners for their continuous support and commitment to our mission.”
