Tri-Rail express delayed on its inaugural route due to a different train accident which hit and killed someone

Dozens of passengers riding Tri-Rail's inaugural express train expecting a faster one-way trip to downtown Miami were instead delayed by more than 30 minutes Monday, July 1, morning after another train hit and killed someone.

Passengers alerted at 5:40 a.m. from Tri-Rail said a northbound train was late because of an "incident" involving the train.

As Tri-Rail's southbound express train from downtown West Palm Beach stopped at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport station on schedule at 7:18 a.m., staff told passengers they needed to get off and take a bus to get to Miami. Staff told passengers who asked for details that police had yet to reopen the Hallandale Beach Boulevard crossing where someone crossing the tracks was hit and killed by a train.

The Piano Man, Billy Joel, out on the town with his daughter in West Palm Beach

On some of the biggest stages in the world, Billy Joel is a rock star, the Piano Man, a pillar of pop culture.

But on a recent day at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach, Billy Joel was just a dad on the town with his daughter.

On June 5, he and his 8-year-old daughter Della Rose went to "Space Explorers: The Infinite," an immersive virtual-reality experience at the Kravis through Sept. 2, a Kravis spokesperson confirmed.

Those who step into the virtual-reality world of "The Infinite" don Oculus Quest 2 headsets and explore the inner and outer workings of the International Space Station via high-resolution video captured and adapted by film studio Felix & Paul Studios and Montreal-based PHI Studio

Hooters in West Palm Beach is among dozens to close nationally under economic strains

As Palm Beach County residents continue to wait and see whether any of its three local Red Lobsters will shutter in a wave that has gripped the nation for the past month, another national chain is faltering under economic stresses, and this time a West Palm Beach restaurant is among the casualties.

The Hooters at 2020 Palm Beach Lakes Blvd. closed Sunday, company officials confirmed Monday, June 24. Roughly 40 Hooters restaurants across the country closed permanently Sunday morning, according to Texas news outlet Texoma.

Closures included restaurants in Texas, Florida, Kentucky and Virginia, according to local media reports.
