Woman rescued after falling over embankment in Bradford County

ATHENS, Pa. ( WETM ) — A terrifying moment in Bradford County took place Tuesday morning after a woman was reported to have fallen over an embankment near a scenic overlook.

According to emergency crews and the Bradford County Emergency Management, an active rescue scene took place near an overlook on Sheshequin Road just south of Athens on July 2, just after 11:45 a.m.

Reports stated that a woman was with her dog when they fell over an embankment and were hanging onto a tree or some other object to keep her from falling.

According to the Bradford County Department of Public Safety, crews from Ulster EMS, Ulster-Sheshequin Fire Department, and Greater Valley EMS responded quickly to the area where a scene was set up and the road was blocked off.

The woman was located and a boat was deployed from the Ulster-Sheshequin Fire Department into the Susquehanna River to go to the area and assist. Athens Township Fire Department and the Bradford County Drone Team were sent to the scene to provide vital information to rescuers.

According to Bradford County Emergency Management, crews descended from the top of the hill to rescue the woman and her dog and brought her to the bottom around 12:30 p.m.

Officials said that the woman and her dog were okay, and were loaded onto the awaiting boats. The woman was taken to the boat launch and then to Robert Packer Hospital for evaluation while the dog was taken by the Bradford County CART team and returned to their owner.

The scene was deemed clear with Sheshequin Road being reopened around 1 p.m.
