Middleburg, Pa. — A fire that broke out last week at a Snyder County home was likely due to a possible electrical malfunction and careless smoking, police say.

State police fire marshal Nathan Birth investigated after responders arrived to the scene shortly before 3 a.m. June 25 at the home at 8301 Route 522 in Franklin Township. Three people were transported to local hospitals for treatment for smoke inhalation, according to a police report from Birth. One of the individuals had moderate to severe injuries. The individuals have since been released from the hospital.

Though Birth stated possible causes of the fire, the official cause remains undetermined.

Citizens Hose Company in Middleburg responded to the scene.
