Simone Biles And SZA Battle For Best Handstand As Singer Gets Nostalgic About Gymnast Past

SZA and Simone Biles met up ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics for some friendly competition and to revel over their shared love of gymnastics .

The “ Snooze ” singer and the Olympic gold medalist appeared like kindergarten best friends when they linked up in the promotional video.

“This is my dream to talk to you. I’m not even kidding,” gushed SZA to Biles. “I was so hype, because you’re like my wildest dream […] I just have never seen anything like you. No one has, but it’s just like, wow.”

Before the two took part in a friendly handstand battle, Biles reminded SZA, “You can’t break a nail. You can’t hurt yourself.” To which the latter joked, “I don’t care about my nails. I’m scared to lose.”

Before becoming a Grammy-winning singer , SZA had dreams of being a gymnast, but made the pivot into music “when it was clear” that she wouldn’t become “a national gymnast,” but still needed an outlet “to be competitive at.” She described singing as a “ hidden talent .”

SZA then practiced her handstand form as Biles excitedly cheered her on, “That’s good!,” while clapping and squealing.

When the competition actually began, SZA nearly knocked Biles over a few times, but it was all done with love. This was only the first installment of the women basking in their mutual love of the sport, as the video ended with “to be continued.”

The CTRL singer previously opened up about her gymnast past with Complex in 2013. “I was a gymnast for 13 years so I was heavy into sports. I directed all my attention to it. I did really well in sports and was captain of my team. I was hardcore USA Gymnastics,” she shared.

SZA also credited being an athlete for expanding her musical influences , which led to her being the superstar she is today—despite her conservative upbringing.
