BTS member Jin is preparing for one of his first post-military service public events: the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The 31-year-old singer is slated to participate in the upcoming Olympic Torch Relay as a torchbearer from South Korea, his label announced Tuesday. The relay began in April in Olympia, Greece and is traveling through France ahead of the games’ opening ceremony. An official schedule has yet to be released, however, Jin will take part in the Olympic tradition to “spread the message of ‘harmony’ and ‘peace,'” according to a release.

As the eldest in the seven-piece K-Pop supergroup, Jin was the first group member to return to the public eye last month following the completion of his 18-month mandatory military service. The other six members are currently serving.

After he was discharged, Jin held an event where 1,000 fans, selected through a raffle, got the chance to hug the singer. Big Hit Music, the group’s label, made an announcement on their fan platform Weverse , in part saying: “This event was prepared in order to fulfill Jin’s wish to spend meaningful time with ARMY in person on BTS’ debut day.”

Along with the upcoming Olympics job, the singer told fans on Weverse: “I’m working on recording music and filming variety shows. I’m trying to focus on my main job while showing my face as much as possible. The results will be out in a few months, so please wait a little longer.”

In October 2022, Jin and his fellow group members — RM, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook — performed a massive free concert, titled “Yet to Come,” in Busan, South Korea. The concert, which was in support of Korean city’s bid for the 2030 World Expo, brought legions of ARMY, the name given to BTS’ loyal fan base, from around the world.

Days after the performance, Big Hit Music, which is a subsidiary of Hybe Corp., announced that all seven members would be moving forward with plans to fulfill their military service , saying it was “the perfect time” and that group’s members were honored to serve.

BTS is expected to reunite as a full group in 2025 when all seven members have been discharged.

The 2024 Paris Olympics are scheduled to take place from July 26 through Aug. 11.
