Bob’s Stores to close across New England

Stores will close by July 14, with going-out-of-business sales with 30-70% discounts.

Bob’s Stores, a discount clothing and shoe retailer, is closing all its locations and liquidating all inventory as part of a Chapter 11 restructuring petition filed on June 18, according to a press release from Hilco Merchant Resources.

Bob’s Stores began going-out-of-business sales in all locations Friday, which include discounts of 30-70% off.

Shoppers will find discounts on workwear, footwear, team wear, and everyday clothing, the release said. Store fixtures, furniture, and equipment will also be for sale.

Gift cards and merchandise credits will be honored until the stores close on July 14.

Despite making changes to the company’s structure and operations, Bob’s Stores was unable to secure the finances needed to maintain operations, the release said.

Hilco Merchant Resources, a business management consultant based in Illinois, and Gordon Brothers, a retail-focused investment firm in Boston, will manage the liquidation event, including all Bob’s 21 stores throughout Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island.

“We regret that our financial position necessitated the liquidation of Bob’s Stores,” Dave Barton, president of Bob’s Stores, said in a statement. “Bob’s has been a stalwart of our local communities for nearly 70 years, and we know our customers remember us as having been there for major moments in their lives. We remain grateful to our vendors, suppliers, customers and employees for all of their support over the years.”

Headquartered in Meriden, Connecticut, Bob’s Stores is known for its affordable prices and comprehensive merchandise offerings.

It is a subsidiary of GoDigital Media Group, a multinational conglomerate that connects “creativity to commerce” and owns other businesses such as Cinq Music, Eastern Mountain Sports, and YogaWorks.
