Cowlitz County Coroner asks for help identifying remains to try to solve 2021 cold case

The Cowlitz County Coroner is asking for help in solving a cold case by asking the public to help identify skeletal remains.

The remains were found in 2021 in a wooded area near Cougar, which is just south of Ape Cave Interpretive Site, on Highway 503.

The unidentified remains are believed to be those of a white man of unknown age, although they noted the remains were of a younger adult, according to the coroner’s new release.

DNA was submitted and a forensic artist drew a sketch from what they had to work with. The coroner noted that the sketch may not look exactly like the person but that it should be helpful as an example.

The coroner’s office is asking anyone with any information about the remains to call 360-577-3079.
