Ron Harper Slams NBA Players After Seeing D'Angelo Russell Wearing Sports Vest During Scrimmage

A post went viral on X recently, in which a user called out D'Angelo Russell for wearing a "sports bra" during a scrimmage at his camp. It was actually just a conventional sports vest that is commonly worn these days, but it appears former NBA player Ron Harper was unaware of that. Harper felt Russell wearing it showed that today's players are soft.

"It say a lot about today game? SOFT."

I think there is a good chance Harper did not pay attention to that community note. If he did and still had a problem with it, then he's completely in the wrong here. These vests help track performance, heart rate, and a lot more, and are essential in today's day and age.

I am fairly sure these did not exist when Harper played in the NBA from 1986 to 2001, so you initially wouldn't be surprised to find out he was unaware of that. His eldest son Ron Harper Jr., though, did play in the NBA for two seasons with the Toronto Raptors from 2022 to 2024. I am quite surprised that the 60-year-old appears to have never heard about them even from his son.

There are quite a few examples that display how today's players are a lot softer than the ones from 20-odd years ago, but this isn't one of them.

As for Russell, he held that camp at the MidAmerica Sports Center in Louisville, KY from June 25 to 28. The 28-year-old recently picked up his $18.7 million player option for the 2024-25 season with the Los Angeles Lakers but isn't expected to be with the team for much longer.

Russell is one of the players the Lakers are reportedly willing to trade and I would be a bit surprised if he is on the roster on opening night. It isn't something that he is losing much sleep over, though, based on just how much fun he was having at this camp.
