Biden To Do First TV Interview Since Trump Debate — With Sunday Show Host

President Joe Biden will give his first TV interview since his debate showdown with former President Donald Trump this week — to a respected Sunday show host.

The big story to emerge from CNN’s debate Thursday night was the panic after deadly early stumbles from Biden set the tone for debate coverage — though his performance improved as the debate went on. Calls for Biden to drop out have dominated post-debate coverage.

But the president’s allies point to post-debate events , and to the claim that the race hasn’t changed since the debate.

On Tuesday afternoon, ABC News announced that the president will sit down with This Week host George Stephanopoulos:

ABC News announces the exclusive, first television interview with President Joe Biden following the presidential debate last week. The president will sit down on the campaign trail Friday with “Good Morning America” co-anchor and “This Week” anchor George Stephanopoulos. A first look of the interview will air Friday, July 5, on “World News Tonight with David Muir ,” with portions airing on “Good Morning America” Saturday and Sunday as well. The extended interview will air Sunday, July 7, on “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” and “Good Morning America” on Monday, July 8.

The announcement comes as several Democrats have become willing to publicly entertain the idea of the president stepping down, and as the White House arranges a meeting with Democratic governors to reassure them.
