Get ready for a safe and sober holiday on Florida’s waterways! Operation Dry Water (ODW), a national campaign to prevent boating under the influence (BUI), kicks off its enforcement blitz this weekend, July 4th through 6th.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is joining forces with other law enforcement agencies to crack down on drunk boating and ensure a safe holiday for everyone.

    Expect Increased Patrols and Education

Boaters can expect to see more officers patrolling Florida’s lakes, rivers, and coasts throughout the weekend. These officers will be looking for signs of impairment and removing unsafe operators from the water.

    Education is Key

While enforcement is important, education is a key part of Operation Dry Water. Officers will be engaging with boaters, reminding them of the dangers of BUI and promoting safe boating practices.

    Remember:

    • Operating a boat under the influence of alcohol or drugs is illegal and can lead to serious consequences, just like driving under the influence.
    • In Florida, the legal blood alcohol content (BAC) limit for boat operators is .08, the same as for drivers.
    • Always wear a life jacket and consider taking a boating safety course to ensure a fun and responsible day on the water.

FWC Launches Campaign with National Event

The FWC is kicking off Operation Dry Water with a national launch event in Destin, Florida, on July 3rd. This event highlights the importance of safe boating practices across the country.

    Boating Safety First!

The FWC reminds everyone to prioritize safety this holiday weekend. By remaining sober, wearing life jackets, and boating responsibly, everyone can enjoy a fun and memorable experience on Florida’s beautiful waterways.
