    Chemung County to hold sewer project open house

    SOUTHPORT, N.Y. ( WETM ) — Chemung County residents are invited to learn more about the sewer district’s $222 million project.

    The Chemung County Sewer District is hosting an open house at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, at 600 Milton St. in Southport. The open house will include an update on the sewer district’s consolidation project and a tour of the project, weather permitting.

    Chemung County to see more than $200 million to update aging wastewater treatment plants

    The sewer district is using $222 million in state financing and grants to modernize and expand its 35-year-old Milton Street wastewater treatment plant. The sewer district also plans on taking its 50-year-old Lake Street plant out of service.

    Chemung County Executive Chris Moss, Deputy Executive Jennifer Furman, and Chemung County Sewer District Director Ali Rennie will be at the open house to answer questions about the sewer project from the public.
