The "older siblings do literally whatever the younger sibling wants" tradition isn't just for humans anymore. Sure, I let my younger sister spend basically all of my money, but it could be worse. We could be Corgis, and she could be taking my leash!

Oh, wait... that's real, too. On Sunday, June 30th, one pair of Corgis were going through exactly this. The big boy was letting his little sister take the reins, and she may have been having a little too much fun:

Hammy and Fiona are very cute together. Honestly, it's karma that he gets to be the older sibling for once!

Hammy wasn't always the eldest: once upon a time, he had an older sister named Olivia. She was a Corgi, too, and she passed in November of last year. Her dad says her passing was peaceful, and it took Hammy a long time to adjust to being an only pup. With no one to boss him around, he became the teeniest bit spoiled.

Have no fear, they sent someone in to humble him at just the right time. In May of this year, they decided to bring in a puppy, Fiona. Since then, Hammy has taken on the role of big brother well; he's been there through the teething stage, the fighting stage, and now, through her bossy stage. He's getting a taste of his own medicine!

Will Getting a New Dog Help My Dog Grieve?

If you've lost a dog, odds are, you've considered it whether you have another dog or not. Losing a pet is hard: it leaves a hole in your home. Their favorite things go untouched. Their furry siblings might be unsure of how to proceed: if you've always had someone there showing you the way, you're going to be lost without them.

Getting a new dog will certainly distract your remaining dog(s) from the grief they're feeling , but it's not a total fix. A puppy may keep them busy, but you'll also find that they still wait around for their other sibling sometimes. Over the next few months, they'll gradually get better, and things will get easier, but grief never goes away completely.

Before committing to adopting another dog right away, you should test the waters; take your pup to the dog park or ask a friend to bring their dog over. Some dogs may not be ready to socialize with other dogs yet, in which case, it's best to wait. Hammy's parents waited about six months, and now, Hammy and his little sister are getting along great!
