Gov. Jim Justice has appointed Del. Todd Kirby to be circuit judge in Raleigh County. He replaces Judge Robert Burnside, who announced last year he would not seek reelection.

Kirby , R-Raleigh, resigned from the House of Delegates effective Tuesday, according to the letter he sent to House Speaker Roger Hanshaw Tuesday.

“I am grateful for the support and collaboration of my colleagues and the opportunity to contribute to the legislative process,” he wrote to Hanshaw. “I have immense respect for the work we have accomplished together and the positive impact we have made within the Mountain State.”

Kirby, of Beckley, earned degrees in political science and international studies from Marshall University, according to the governor’s office. He graduated with his Juris Doctorate from Liberty University School of Law in Lynchburg, Virginia. He has owned and operated his own law firm in Beckley since 2011.
