President Joe Biden will spend much of the July Fourth holiday weekend attempting to ease concerns about his candidacy among voters and Democratic power players.

Biden's poor performance during the first 2024 presidential debate saw a coterie of Democratic strategists, officials, and lawmakers calling for his removal from the top of the ticket. The president's team, however, maintained Biden's intention to stay in the race and take part in the second debate in September.

The president returned to Washington, D.C., on Monday evening following a weekend at Camp David, and White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre announced several new media engagements for the president during Tuesday's press briefing, including meetings with Democratic governors and lawmakers, a sit-down interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos on Friday, and an official press conference during his attendance at the NATO summit next week.

Biden will also campaign in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania over the weekend.

Despite Jean-Pierre's assurances that Biden only had a "bad night" last Thursday and remains fit to perform the duties of office, reporters continued to question the press secretary about the president's health.

Jean-Pierre noted that the White House released Biden's bill of health in February and forcefully stated that no one in the White House is "hiding" information about the president's physical and mental facilities.

"The president has been out there. He's been listening to supporters," she declared. "I think it matters that he's going to do an interview on Friday. I think it matters that he's going to go to Wisconsin and do that, right, engage with everyday people."
