Early Tuesday morning, Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) customers across several Northern California counties are without power as the utility company initiated its first Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) events of the year.

The affected counties currently under the PSPS events include Butte, Colusa, Glenn, Lake, Shasta, Solano, and Tehama counties. Customers are advised to stay informed and prepared during this period of power outages.

These preemptive measures come in response to heightened wildfire risks in the region.

A PSPS event can be triggered by a combination of factors including low humidity levels, strong winds, dry vegetation, and the issuance of Red Flag warnings. PG&E emphasizes that these measures are aimed at reducing the risk of power lines sparking fires in vulnerable areas.
