Critically acclaimed rapper Killer Mike continues to rack up awards for his latest album “Michael,” but after his scuffle at the Grammys in February , he almost wasn’t allowed to receive his latest award in person.

Killer Mike, a solo artist and one half of the hip-hop duo Run the Jewels, won’t face charges in connection with a scuffle at the Grammy Awards in February, but he’s apparently still unable to enter Crypto.com Arena, where the Grammys were held, or the nearby Peacock Theater, where the BET Awards were held on Sunday.

That was, at least until BET stepped in to let their Album of the Year winner attend in person.

“It’s humbling to be nominated for [the BET Awards] Album of the Year and not allowed in the building because it’s taking place at the same place as the Grammy’s. It’s equally humbling for
[BET] and [entertainment company AEG Presents] to go out of their way and right this wrong so I can attend,” the rapper wrote on X, formerly Twitter .

On Feb. 4, fresh off his three Grammy wins for best rap song, best rap performance and best rap album for his latest project “Michael,” the rapper born Michael Santiago Render allegedly got into a scuffle with a worker at the event.

That worker then put him under a citizen’s arrest and he was taken out of the venue in handcuffs, something Killer Mike attributed to an “over-zealous” security guard .

It’s good for Render that the legal situation was nixed, as he won BET’s Album of the Year, and he was there to accept the award in person.

“I was put in handcuffs and I was marched out of this building,” Render said during his acceptance speech . “But I wanna tell you, look at God because I’m back, baby. I’m back.”

It was not revealed if the ban has been dropped or if Render was given a one-time exception for this awards show.
